Weber-Hydraulik automates a DMG Mori CTX 2500 with RoboJob

WEBER-HYDRAULIK, a hydraulics specialist from Güglingen, Germany, has automated a DMG Mori CTX 2500 with RoboJob since 2019. A RoboJob Racks system, the predecessor of today’s Pallet-Load, moves pallets of parts weighing up to 10 kg unmanned, raising productivity and relieving operators of heavy handling.

A Swabian family business in hydraulics

Founded in 1939, WEBER-HYDRAULIK is a family business from Güglingen in Baden-Württemberg. It develops cylinders, control blocks, steering and suspension systems, valves and power units for mobile machines, commercial vehicles and machine tools, as well as rescue equipment. Around 520 people work at the headquarters in Güglingen, where WEBER-HYDRAULIK creates application-specific hydraulic solutions for its customers.

Why automate: productivity and physical relief

Like many manufacturers, WEBER-HYDRAULIK aimed for more efficient production. The company explored different types of automation, with a clear goal: higher productivity and efficiency through automated loading.

“One of our objectives was to be able to increase our productivity and efficiency through automated loading. Furthermore, automation enabled us to optimise the flow of our turned parts.”

— WEBER-HYDRAULIK, Güglingen

Automation also brings physical relief. The turned parts weigh up to 10 kg; today, operators only load and unload the pallets according to the production order and measure the parts at defined intervals.

Why RoboJob

WEBER-HYDRAULIK came to RoboJob through a recommendation from one of its parts suppliers, which runs several RoboJob robots itself. During detailed planning, the team found RoboJob’s parametric user interface exceptionally easy to program, without specific programming know-how. What made the difference compared to competitors was that the robot moves the pallets in the Racks system unmanned.

The solution: a Racks system on a DMG Mori CTX 2500

In 2019, RoboJob automated WEBER-HYDRAULIK’s existing DMG Mori CTX 2500 lathe with a RoboJob Large Racks system. The parts are supplied on pallets, which the robot moves into and out of the cell unmanned. Racks has since been succeeded by the RoboJob Pallet-Load, which builds on the same principle of pallet-based loading.

The preparation phase, the technical specification and design, and the installation and commissioning, also with the machine manufacturer, went very well. It was clear that RoboJob and the machine manufacturer had already completed several projects together.

The result: efficiency, productivity and a real partner

After some small initial issues and change requests, which RoboJob solved at short notice, the automation and the machine run in perfect harmony. Operators enjoy working with the system, both for its ease of use and for the physical relief.

“Our goal of increasing efficiency and productivity was achieved through automation. The most important thing for us is that in RoboJob we’ve found a partner who also understands the machining process. We work together to find and develop solutions that provide real added value for both our company and our employees.”

Frequently asked questions

Which machine did Weber-Hydraulik automate with RoboJob?

WEBER-HYDRAULIK in Güglingen, Germany, automated a DMG Mori CTX 2500 lathe in 2019 with a RoboJob Racks system, the predecessor of today’s Pallet-Load. The robot moves pallets of parts weighing up to 10 kg unmanned.

Can a DMG Mori CTX 2500 lathe be automated?

Yes. RoboJob automated an existing DMG Mori CTX 2500 at WEBER-HYDRAULIK with pallet-based loading. Today, RoboJob offers the Pallet-Load for this kind of application. More projects are listed on the DMG Mori automation page.

What replaced the RoboJob Racks system?

The RoboJob Racks system has been succeeded by the Pallet-Load. Like Racks, the Pallet-Load supplies parts to the CNC machine on pallets. WEBER-HYDRAULIK has been running a Racks system on a DMG Mori CTX 2500 since 2019.

Can a robot take over the handling of heavy turned parts?

Yes. At WEBER-HYDRAULIK, the RoboJob system handles turned parts weighing up to 10 kg. Operators only load and unload the pallets and measure parts at defined intervals, which relieves them physically.

Which hydraulic component manufacturers use RoboJob automation?

RoboJob automates CNC machines at hydraulic manufacturers such as WEBER-HYDRAULIK in Güglingen, Strautmann Hydraulik in Melle (Germany) and HP Valves in the Netherlands.
