"Production must run 24/7." That was the requirement of PTM Mechatronics GmbH, a German player in drive and agitator technology. At PTM, they work in two shifts, but even that is not enough to keep up with the high demand. With batches ranging from 100 to as many as 8,000 pieces, there is plenty of work, and they had to look for a way to maximise the spindle hours of their CNC machine.
The Mazak Integrex J200 S wants to be able to run permanently at PTM Mechatronics, both in large batches and in high mix, low volume. This is how RoboJob's Tower came into the picture. The Bavarian company investigated a few other systems from other providers, but the Tower appeared to be the only logical choice for them. And it turned out to be the right investment. Production manager Sven Scharmacher explains:
"We are very satisfied with both the Tower and RoboJob. We also have a great service advantage with RoboJob because their service technicians can remotely connect to our Tower to see what is happening. This way, downtime is minimal and we can resume production immediately."
"We generate huge profits by being able to produce 24/7. We are therefore actively recommending RoboJob to others and we are even already considering equipping a second CNC machine with a robot."
The finished pieces serve as components in applications for various sectors such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, packaging, food & beverage and the chemical industry. And this is where demand dares to fluctuate. Nevertheless, PTM Mechatronics managed to switch from two production teams to one, while only increasing its output:
"We generate huge profits by being able to produce 24/7. We therefore actively recommend RoboJob to others and we are already even considering equipping a second CNC machine with a robot."
And they are right, because if 24/7 is no longer enough, a second Tower can always make it 48/7.
